about

This song was inspired by Toni Morrison's book Beloved. Sixo, an African American slave in the pre antebellum South, explains why he walks a thirty mile round trip, seventeen hours each way, in order to have an hour with a woman, "She is a friend of my mind. She gather me, man. The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order."
